The Foundery has new membership pricing! We’ve prepared this FAQ to answer any questions you may have.
What’s the new pricing?
Effective Tuesday, August 1st, 2017, the price of a day pass has been slashed by up to 80%:
Weekdays – Full Day (9a – 10p): $20
Weekday – Evening (4p – 10p): $10
Weekend – Full Day (10a – 5p): $10
Are there any discounts?
Of course! Day passes are discounted 50% for students, teachers, seniors (65+), first responders, Veterans, and active duty military
What about monthly memberships?
We’ve decided to do away with monthly memberships, at least for the time being. We think Pay As You Build pricing will make the Foundery more accessible to more people.
I’m currently a monthly member. What happens to my membership?
Your current membership will stay in place until the renewal date, when it will expire automatically. Your credit card will no longer be charged automatically and you can continue to access the Foundery as before by purchasing a day pass.
What if I want to keep my monthly membership?
We recognize this is a big change, so we’re giving current monthly individual* members a one-time option to extend their unlimited access membership to November 1st, 2017 at their current rate. If you wish to take advantage of this offer, contact us via email at email@example.com or call or stop in during our open hours. We may revisit the unlimited access option on a future date.
Why are you making this change?
We didn’t come to this decision lightly. After celebrating our first birthday in June, we sat down and crunched the data from our first 12 months; membership and class attendance, operating expenses, and member feedback. The conclusions were clear…less than 10% of people who took one or more classes and were qualified to use tools and equipment ended up joining as a monthly member. Although $150 a month is a bargain for access to over a million dollars of tools and equipment, most people can’t justify paying that if they only need occasional access. Our founding principle was to provide community access to industrial-grade tools and training, and we believe a low-cost day pass is the most equitable way to accomplish this. By the way, the data shows that our new pricing will result in net savings to over 90% of our current monthly members as well!
Are there any changes planned for classes and workshops?
As before, all members must be qualified on the tools and equipment they want to use, so classes are still required to use the shop. What will change is that starting September 1st, free day passes will no longer be given for each class taken. For classes taken in August, your account balance will be credited for $10, which you can use towards the purchase of a day pass.
